Tips for Finding Your Foundation Shade
The last
time I bought foundation, I was looking for Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Foundation.
It was my favorite for years as it fitted my skin tone perfectly and made my
skin looked matte even when it is oily. Unfortunately, the shade that I used to
wear was discontinued.
I tried to
find one similar. I went to my local Sephora and asked one of the employees for
help. She applied one to me and it looked good inside the store. However,
outside, it did not match my neck tone. Then, I returned to the store and the girl
was really nice and offered some samples for me. Unfortunately, none of the samples
worked for me.
Then, I went
to Ulta and found out that there was a new Tarte’s foundation line: Double Tape.
In Ulta, the store does not give samples away, and an employee applied one
shade to me. He told me I would be able to return the foundation if I did not
like how it looked outside in the daylight. The shade looked too light for me
outside. Also, it did not help my oily skin; pimples appeared. I then returned
such a foundation.
I gave up on
finding another Tarte’s foundation and returned to Sephora. I asked a girl for
help and told her I was looking for a foundation for my oily skin and that
actually matched my skin tone. She recommended Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r
foundation and experimented with two shades on my skin. She put one shade on
the left of my face and another one on the right side of my face. Ultimately, I
decided on one. The girl then offered some samples of two shades below the
shade I liked and two shades above it. Ultimately, one of them worked for me
and I went back later to buy it.
When
deciding what foundation to buy, I will always recommend asking someone else to
help you. I recommend going to a store in which you can see how the foundation
looks on your face. Unfortunately, convenience stores and pharmacies do not
offer that. Ultimately, between Sephora and Ulta, I would prefer to go to
Sephora for this since you would be able to take some samples with you and try
them out on the daylight.
Some tips:
- Always check that the foundation is for your
skin type (oily, combination, or dry).
- If your skin type is oily, try to go
for the oil-free foundations.
- Make sure that the foundation matches both
your face and neck shades in the daylight.
- Never be afraid of asking questions
to beauty stores’ employees.
- Take advantage of free samples and being
able to return makeup.
